Description

DOWAGRO SPINTOR FLY SPECIFIC PROTEIN LURE BASED ON ORGANIC SPINOSAD LT. 5

Spintor Fly is a specific ready-to-use protein bait based on spinosad for the control of Diptera Tefritidi. A new technology based on Spinosad with low environmental impact. The product contains spinosad at an extremely low percentage (0.24 g / l). The bait was developed jointly by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Dow AgroSciences.

In addition to spinosad, it contains 6 ingredients that make it more attractive and improve its persistence on plants compared to baits already on the market. These are vegetable proteins, stabilizing substances, sugars, humectants and substances which keep the applied solution viscous and emit volatile attractive substances. Spintor Fly uses an innovative application technique, consisting in making the same applied solution assume the function of "attractive station".

The greater attractiveness of the bait compared to traditional ones, allows a considerable reduction in the amount of spinosad used. The action is carried out on adults of both sexes by ingestion. Due to the particular combination of the bait ingredients, the fly attracted by the product reaches the treated area and begins to feed "ad libitum". Following the feeding, it is observed that the fly does not lay, stops feeding and, within 2-3 hours, dies.

Spintor Fly has no harmful effect on mammals and birds, it has a low toxicity towards aquatic organisms, with values from 1000 to 10000 times lower than those of most synthetic insecticides, it is not toxic to earthworms and is not it accumulates in the soil. Furthermore, this substance has no attractive action towards pollinating insects and is harmless towards useful fauna.

The intrinsic toxicological and ecotoxicological characteristics of the active substance, the extremely low application doses and the innovative method of distribution, make the use of the product safe for humans and the environment. Furthermore, the absence of unpleasant odors allows treatments to be carried out even in crops adjacent to homes.

The aqueous solution needed to treat 1 hectare is 1-1.2 L of Spintor Fly. In this way, only 0.24-0.29 g of spinosad active substance are distributed per hectare. The dose of 1-1.2 L of Spintor Fly is dissolved in 4 L of water (total 5 L of solution), distributing it on 50% of the plants, alternating the rows or single plants, and spraying only a part of the crown with a single spray that creates a patch of 30-40cm in diameter.

In the current label, a maximum of 5 treatments / year is possible, but a change request is pending for a maximum of 10 treatments / year.

Spintor Fly, like the other formulations based on spinosad, is included in Annex II B of Regulation 2092/91, relating to the active ingredients allowed in Organic Agriculture.

Spintor® Fly is registered in numerous countries such as the USA, various nations of Central America, Israel, Cyprus, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, France, Spain and Greece on various crops (citrus, olive, stone fruit, pome fruit, tropical fruit, coffee and some horticultural ones). In Italy it was registered on 01/10/2007 on citrus fruits (orange, bitter orange, bergamot, cedar, chinotto, clementine, lime, lemon, mandarin, mapo, grapefruit, tangelo, tangerine), olive, fig, pomegranate, kaki, annona, prickly pear. The waiting period is 3 days on citrus fruits and 7 days on other crops.

Among the probable future registrations, in Italy, the following crops are cited: peach, nectarine, cherry, apricot, plum, walnut, kiwi.

Numerous tests of effectiveness in the field have demonstrated the effectiveness of this formulation in the defense against Mediterranean fruit fly and olive fly on citrus and olive trees. Spintor Fly has proven to be a valid alternative for the fight against Diptera Tefritidi with the traditional products based on dimethoate, malathion and fosmet, but also to be used in combined strategies with these products.
