That year, 18-year-old Joseph Opinel worked in his father's studio, Daniel, and came up with the idea of a practical and reliable little pocket knife. The Opinel knife was born. We commemorate its 120th anniversary by offering a replica of the one designed by Joseph Opinel in 1890.

Carbon steel
The Opinel unalloyed carbon steel, high carbon content to obtain after heat treatment operation excellent hardness which guarantees a perfect fit with the edge as well as a high wear resistance and easy re-sharpening. However carbon steel with low resistance to corrosion from moisture requires precautions for use: do not let your knife wet with dishwasher, clean the blade with a tack cloth after use and thick grease and its joint.
