Liquid calcium contains divalent calcium that is easily assimilated by the root system; it is therefore recommended in fertigation. In general, calcium deficiency occurs on agricultural crops with visible leaf depigmentations, and with curling and curving of the flaps, especially on younger leaves. Calcium performs a very complex series of functions within the plant such as the neutralization of organic acids, the strengthening of cell walls, the regulation of nitrogen and iron absorption, etc. When there is a defect or absence of calcium in the soil, decalcification or gelation of the cell membranes occurs.
