SPANISH CLIMBING BEAN CORONA GR. 250 (U PAPPALLUNI)
The plant looks like a fairly vigorous climber with gradual ripening; The pod is green in color, with dimensions of approximately 14-15 cm in length and 2-2.5 cm in width. The seed, large (2-2.5 cm x 1.5 cm), has a slightly reniform and flattened oval shape, white color, like a White bean from Spain or Corona from which it probably derives. The bean is used fresh or dry shelled generally in combination with pork-based dishes. As a bean it has a slightly thick skin and a floury but soft paste
For the preparation of the soil a light plowing (25 - 30 cm) is carried out followed by a harrowing through which the fertilizer, generally organic, is administered. Sowing takes place in the month of May with planting spans ranging from 20-30 cm on the row and 1-1.5 meters between the rows. Irrigations must be constant but not excessive. The harvest is done manually from the end of July until September; the product is dried on the farmyard in the sun and, therefore, is selected. The bean is fairly productive and about 40-50 q.li/ha of fresh product can be harvested.
